Bob Hoskins in The Long Good Friday

Good movie. Very good movie. Director John MacKenzie realizes the intensity of Hoskins as Harold, a lucrative businessman and gang boss with something to lose, and its being lost. As a faceless enemy rips into the organization, Harold's life and stability are tested. Set on an Easter Weekend in London, the American Mafia is coming to invest in a joint venture...it someone doesn't want it to happen. The agitator does more to turn Harold into a weapon against himself, than being itself a weapon. Don't forget Helen Mirren as Victoria, a calm, collected Concierge who levels Harold, but also proves she can be shaken as well. Also, P.W.S. Anderson is working on a new remake of the 1979 masterpiece...but between Alien vs. Predator, Event Horizon, and Mortal Kombat I am not holding my breath.
Pierce Brosnan as a gay Irishman Rating: 8.9.
